Patient Safety

A priority for Healthcare Organizations

Patient Safety is an essential and vital component of quality care. It has been defined as freedom from accidental injury and further stated that ensuring patient safety involves establishment of operational systems and processes that minimize the likelihood of errors and maximize the likelihood of intercepting them when they occur.

In May 2019, the 72nd World Health Assembly endorsed the establishment of World Patient safety Day to be observed annually on 17th September. The objective of World Patient Safety Day is to raise global awareness about patient safety and encourage solidarity and action.

Patient safety is a new healthcare discipline that emphasizes on reporting, analysis and prevention of medical error that often lead to adverse healthcare events. It is a global public health concern and is fundamental principle of health care.
